PSCBE is a non-stock, non-profit, professional organization that seeks to be a globally-recognized, locally-relevant organization of Filipino Biomedical Engineering Professionals who are committed to the advance of science and practice towards the improvement of healthcare for all Filipinos.

Our goal is to build good rapport between various medical professionals and further to expand their knowledge through events and activities within the organization. PSCBE visualizes a future of Filipino biomedical technologies; For the Filipinos, and made by the Filipinos.

PSCBE Mision

  • PSCBE aims to improve Filipino healthcare through the application of science and engineering concepts in the field of medicine.
  • The organization strives to achieve the betterment of human health through development of innovative biomedical devices, services, and solutions in the settings of Philippine healthcare.
  • Overall, PSCBE aims to become medium for Filipino engineers, medical experts, researchers, professors, students, or anyone generally interested in the field of Biomedical engineering, and assist them in the development of their own innovational devices or for the further expansion of their knowledge in the field.

PSCBE Objectives

The main objective is to unify those who are part of/take interest in the biomedical engineering field under one organization that will become the focal point for the increase of public awareness with regards to the biomedical engineering through the integration of practices in science, medicine, and engineering.

Specifically, the it aims to:

  • Accredit the PSCBE under the International Federation of Medical and Biological Engineering (IFMBE)
  • Have a minimum number of member of at least 50 by the end of the year
  • Organize monthly (total of 12) workshops and training for the continuing professional development (CPD) of biomedical engineers and other allied professionals
  • Set and establish professional standards for the Biomedical Engineers in the Philippines.
  • Engage actively with regulatory agencies in setting the standards for medical devices, products or systems to ensure that they are developed properly, safe and high quality.
  • Creation of the Philippine Journal of Biomedical Engineering in the Philippines
  • Partner with different institutions involved in the field such as manufacturing companies, regulatory and government agencies, higher education institutions, and medical institutions.

Activities

Biomedical Engineering Conference

PSCBE will host a yearly conference centered around biomedical engineering wherein experts in the field can discuss breakthroughs and discoveries regarding their research focuses.

Workshop on Technological Readiness

PSCBE will host workshops for researchers who aim to develop biomedical devices and aid them in the process of development and commercialization of their products. This workshop will help these researchers assess the technological readiness of their respective innovations and help inform them of the necessary processes they need to go through in order to commercialize their research.

Competition on Biomedical Innovation Proposals

PSCBE will host friendly competitions for aspiring innovators who aim to make their ideas into a reality. This competition will provide these innovators a platform wherein they can find potential sponsors for their research.

Meet and Greet Professionals in the Fields

PSCBE will host meet-ups for experts in the field where they can engage in friendly discussions about their knowledge and form connections that can help them in their respective fields.

Webinars and Technical Workshops

Thru the PSCBE, it will invite experts in the field, both on the academe and industry, that will provide webinars and technical workshops for the biomedical engineers

Philippine Journal of Biomedical Engineering

The PSCBE will create the Philippine Journal of Biomedical Engineering that would publish research journal articles for medical devices and health technologies research in the Philippines.

DE LA SALLE UNIVERSITY PROFESSOR DR. NILO BUGTAI, founder of the Evelyn D. Ang - Institute of Biomedical Engineering and Health Technologies (EDA-IBEHT), was recently elected as the president of the newly formed Philippine Society of Clinicians and Biomedical Engineers (PSCBE).

PSCBE is a pioneering government-recognized professional organization that brings together medical professionals and engineers in a unified platform for collaboration, innovation, and effective healthcare solutions.

The induction ceremony was held on June 6, during the 9th International Symposium and 16th Annual Scientific Conference of the Metro Manila Health Research and Development Consortium (MMHRDC), held at Palms Country Club, Alabang. The PSCBE founding officers were sworn in by DOST-NCR Regional Director Engr. Romelen T. Tresvalles.

Aside from Bugtai, other DLSU faculty members who were sworn in to PSCBE posts were School of Innovation and Sustainability Dean Dr. Fides del Castillo as secretary and Assistant Professor Dr. Francisco Emmanuel Munsayac, Jr. III as treasurer.

Other elected officials were Karl Holdings Group President Dr. Luis Ramon Rodriguez who was chosen as vice president; Asian Hospital Chief Medical Officer Dr. Jose Acuin as public relations officer; and Manila A.M.C. Machinery Corporation General Manager Engineer Art Ledonio as auditor.

Themed “Juan Health Research: Bridging Science, Technology and Society,” this year’s conference focused on the interdisciplinary synergy and the future of healthcare in the Philippines.

Featured among the plenary speakers were Bugtai, who talked about “Bioengineering Research Applications in Clinical Medicine,” and DLSU Distinguished Professor and Vice President for Research and Innovation Dr. Raymond Tan, who shared “Approaches in Managing the Health Impact of Microplastics in the Environment.”

Auditor

  • Conducts internal audits to ensure financial transparency and compliance.

Public Relations Officer

  • Develops and maintains the organization’s public image and reputation.
